Tri-Continental Treat for BC3

With the BC3 Future Stars sale only 12 days away, punters were reminded of the young brand’s growing international presence over the weekend with 4 winners across 3 continents in the space of 4 days. With all 4 winners having their first outings this preparation, current owners are looking forward to the next few months of racing, whilst prospective buyers have plenty to be excited about ahead of the BC3 Future Stars sale on Sunday August 22 at Inglis Oaklands.

Friday’s strong win by Stratum gelding Gig Guide against a quality field at Geelong in Australia started the ball rolling. His turn of foot over the last 300 metres as he put paid to both the promising Darley gelding Garvan and the impeccably bred Redoute’s Choice colt Hamel, gave onlookers an insight to a potential 3YO Spring performer. On Sunday, under the sunny skies of the Del Mar Carnival in California 2010 graduate, Cactus Jane, a filly by Cactus Ridge out of Penguin Parade (Miswaki) stepped out for her debut start. She gave the holiday punters something to celebrate with a storming finish to run away from the field and score an easy 3 length victory. Click the image at the top of the page for her race replay.

Later that day in Japan, another debutante, this time from the 2009 US draft, Highest Climb, a colt by Empire Maker out of Rahy Dolly, became BC3’s first Japanese winner when he scored a neck victory at Hakodate over 1,000 metres.

And finally, on Monday at Swan Hill, back in Australia, impressive Lonhro gelding Johnnydrama scored an easy debut win at his second start and now looks set for a promising Spring campaign. To see a replay of this impressive win click here

Gig Guide storms to debut win

One of the few remaining horses from BC3's 2009 draft, a Stratum gelding out of Whirligig, Gig Guide, stormed to a 2 length victory against a quality field at Geelong today. In only his second start, he jumped well from a wide gate and crossed strongly to take the lead. Whilst headed briefly at the turn by the promising Darley colt Garvan, Gig Guide kicked at the 300 metre mark and quickly put ground on the field to score an impressive win from the Danny O'Brien trained Hamel.

He has subsequently been sold following his win.

Change to Future Stars Schedule

BC3 Thoroughbreds today announced a slight change in the previously-announced schedule for this year’s Future Stars sale. Whilst the actual sale day at Inglis, Oaklands remains on the original date of Sunday August 22^nd , the video and gallop day at BC3’s Sutton Grange property has been brought forward a week to Sunday July 18^th. . The revised schedule is as follows:

BC3 and Inglis confirm Future Stars dates

On the back of our impressive two-year-old American Crew’s victory at Rosehill on Saturday, BC3 Thoroughbreds have confirmed the details for the Future Stars Preview Day and Sale, to be conducted by Inglis Thoroughbred Auctioneers.

Sunday August 22, will mark the second renewal of the BC3 Future Stars Sale, which will be conducted at Inglis’ Oakland’s complex in Melbourne. Horses will be available for inspection at the complex from Thursday, August 19.

The all important Future Stars Preview Day will be conducted a month earlier on Sunday July 25 at Sutton Grange Farm, Bendigo. The day will afford interested buyers the opportunity to see the horses gallop up the straight followed by inspection parades.

Catalogues will be ready prior to the Sutton Grange Preview Day while DVD’s and online footage of gallop sessions will be available soon after on Inglis TV and at the BC3 website.

Although only in its infancy in this part of the world, the BC3 team have enjoyed stakes success with Deer Valley and Dark Valley as well as promising geldings Dane Babylon and the aforementioned American Crew. In the United States we have produced G1 winners Brother Derek, River’s Prayer and Reraise.

“Our strategy is to select the best athletes as yearlings and prepare them for sale as two-year-old’s using proven world class methods.” said BC3 CEO Bill Vlahos.

City Winning Stratum still for sale

American Crew (Stratum – Beauty World, by Danehill Dancer) stamped his credentials as a city class horse with his maiden win at Rosehill on Saturday. The talented gelding settled off the pace in the 1300 metre event before showing a good turn of foot in the straight and held off the fast finishing No Hesitation to reverse the placings from their last match-up. Real Jester gelding makes it a weekend double

Like a Guest (Real Jester-Gold Leaves, by Ksar (GB)), made it a weekend double for BC3 in Australia with a strong win at Geelong over 1125 metres on Sunday. After a solid second placing at Caulfield in his last start, the gelding stripped fitter for that run, and settled nicely behind the leader before kicking clear in the straight to hold off Blooded and a fast finishing Lucky Secret. Official Time: 1.06.07

Free Flying Soul continues to repay owners

US filly Free Flying Soul continues to impress with strong efforts at stakes and Group 1 level. Since finishing third in last year’s G1 Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares Sprint, she has won at both Santa Anita and Hollywood Park, finished 3^rd in the G1 Santa Monica, 2^nd in the G3 Las Flores Handicap and 4^th in the G1 Humana Distaff. The 5 year old mare has been in the money 11 times in her 14 appearances, including 5 wins, 2 seconds and 4 third placings with career earnings of US$356,157. Owned by Marsha Naify, and trained by respected Californian stalwart Bruce Headley, Free Flying Soul was sold as part of BC3’s May 2007 2YO consignment at Barretts. Headley’s daughter Karen who is a big fan of the mare, and a trainer in her own right, stated: “You guys did a great job with her! She was all class from shipping, training, saddling, loading in the gate and most of all the crowds!!! Buy a horse from BC3 you get your money’s worth!!”

Deer Valley on the hunt for more Group success

Deer Valley, the Group 3 winning Lonhro filly, has returned fitter and stronger from her last spell and her first two runs indicate she is well on track for a strong showing in this winter’s Brisbane feature races. A 2^nd in the Listed Hinkler Handicap on a heavy track at Eagle Farm on April 24^th and a solid performance in the slow at the Gold Coast on May 8^th she appears to be on track for a strong showing throughout Brisbane’s winter carnival. Part of BC3’s first consignment in Australia in 2008, she has won $191,825 in prizemoney to date.

Classic Rush just keeps performing

Another 2008 BC3 Australia draftee, 3YO filly Classic Rush (Charge Forward – Classy Dane by Danewin), continues to go from strength to strength with each race. She won twice and was placed 4^th at Group 2 level as a 2YO, and with 3 wins on the board as a 3YO for a career total of 5 wins, this classy filly has so far collected just under $130,000 in prizemoney and bonuses for her owners. She is another of our 2008 draft who could be prominent during the Brisbane winter carnival.

With the 2YO sales season well under way in the United States, BC3 have taken a conservative approach to this year’s sales to ensure we send the right product to market. In line with our strategy of transparency and quality, we have retained a number of horses at our farm in Utah in order to continue with their preparation, or in some cases, their re-habilitation from surgery or injury. This provides a unique opportunity for buyers as there is a number of quality 2YO’s now available for sale directly from our farm. BC3 Thoroughbreds today announced the appointment of Australia’s leading thoroughbred auctioneers Inglis to promote and facilitate the BC3 Future Stars Sale in August 2010. The announcement further underlines the BC3 Future Stars Sale as one of the premier 2YO sales in Australasia and reinforces the growing demand for 2YO sales, particularly from Asia.

BC3 CEO Bill Vlahos said “We’re extremely excited to have the services of Inglis behind the promotion and running of this sale. The Inglis brand is an extremely well respected brand within the global Thoroughbred industry, and we look forward to working with them to create an even stronger 2YO sale. Strong Barretts Sale for BC3

Following an excellent breeze-show on Friday, BC3 Thoroughbreds maintained their momentum with a strong set of sales figures at Tuesday’s Barretts 2YO In Training sale. A D’wildcat colt (out of Wildly Celestial) was rewarded for his strong showing in Friday’s breeze-show when he was picked up by Bob Baffert for $200,000. And continuing the strong movement of BC3 horses to Japan, Mokato Kato picked up a Suave colt ($70,000), Silver Train colt ($100,000) and Gilded Time ($60,000) to take home.

BC3 Sizzles at Barretts

With one of the strongest sets of breeze-shows BC3 has ever produced, Friday’s Preview session at Fairplex has reinforced the consistency from the 2010 US draft we saw at the Fasig-Tipton Calder sale. Leading the way were a D’Wildcat Colt (out of Wildly Celestial) and Holy Bull filly (Table the Motion) who both clocked a 9 and 4/5ths of a second for the 1/8^th mile breeze. The most impressive aspect with both of these runs was the class and ease with which they were completed. Added to this is the fact that the D’wildcat colt actually galloped out the ¼ mile in 20 and 3, which was faster than any quarter mile for the whole day.

The consistency of the draft was really brought to bear by the remaining 11 2YO’s who clocked either 10 flat or 10 and 1/5^th. Times for the whole draft are available below. To see the video of the each horse's gallop, please click on the sire's name.

Speightstown Colt off to Japan

The strong pre-sale interest shown in BC3’s Speightstown colt played itself out in the sales ring at Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton Calder sale. Following some strong bidding across the floor, the colt, out of Motel Lass by Bates Motel, was eventually knocked down to Akihiro Imamura for US$550,000. He will now head to Japan to prepare for his racing debut in one of the world’s strongest racing jurisdictions. The purchase highlighted the growing international interest in the BC3 program, and the confidence being placed in our selection and training process. The Calder sale rounded out strongly with lot 233, the Afleet Alex Colt out of Wildcat Annie, selling for US$90,000 following his strong breeze-up session on Friday.

With 4 of our draft now heading from Calder to the Barrett’s sale, and with strong interest continuing to be shown in post-sale enquiries, the March 22 Barrett’s draft from BC3 looks decidedly strong, with over a dozen quality horses to be offered for sale.

Breeze up positions BC3 Strongly

An extremely strong breeze-up session on Friday February 26 at Calder Racecourse in Miami has placed BC3 in a very solid position ahead of Tuesday’s 2YO sale. With 4 of the 6 horses in the draft clocking 10.2, and the remaining 2 clocking 10.3 and 10.4, the high level of performance and consistency has made BC3 a talking point at the stables over the past few days.

The already highly-fancied Speightstown colt (out of Motel Lass) continued his push for sale-topping status, running 1/8^th in 10.2 with the kind of class we have come to expect. His performance just shaded that of the Pure Prize filly (out of Tejano Honey) who also clocked a 10.2 despite taking a strong interest in the grandstand activity during her breeze.

The 2 other colts to clock 10.2, the Afleet Alex (out of Wildcat Annie) and the Silver Train (out of Best Practices) both put in performances that reflected their strong improvement throughout the BC3 program.

The Purge colt (Special Impression) with a 10.3 and the Suave colt (Our Resurgence) with 10.4 completed the strong showing by BC3 with solid performances over 1/8^th of a mile.

BC3 make early impact in Perth

The 2010 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale has kicked off at Belmont and the team from BC3 Thoroughbreds have made their presence felt early by purchasing a lovely More Than Ready filly for $230,000.

The first lot catalogued for the sale, the filly was offered by Oakland Park Stud, acting as agent, and attracted plenty of interest when she kicked away the state's premier thoroughbred event.

The Westspeed and BOBS eligible youngster is from the stakes winning Bletchley Park mare Ebony Magic and hails from a black type filled family.

Her dam is a sister to Most Secret - the stakes winning dam of star black type winners Covertly, So Secret and Secret Link.

BC3's Sales and Industry Liaison Manager Simon Marshall said the filly was a real stand out and was a must for his team.

"She's a lovely filly - one that will be very suited to the BC3 program," Marshall said.

Marshall said the filly impressed BC3 founder, American based John Brocklebank.

"We have a grading system and she was just one level off the top and we think in three months time she will be there," he said.

"She is going to make into a lovely breeze up prospect later in the year."

The first session of the sale continues at Belmont with a total of 110 lots catalogued to go under the hammer.

BC3 and Pilkington snare Sale Topper

BC3 Thoroughbreds CEO Bill Vlahos and Mark Pilkington joined forces to purchase the Magic Millions sale topper at Lot 656 during Saturday night’s Magic Millions sale session. The Redoute’s Choice colt, out of They Say (Thirty Six Red) was picked up for $925,000 and was the first horse to threaten the $1 million mark at this year’s sale.

The colt will go through the BC3 Thoroughbreds program before heading to the David Hayes stable in a new joint venture for both organizations. “I think most people on the grounds thought he was the best colt” Pilkington said. “He has all the necessary athletic qualities and clearly the best pedigree in the book”. Vlahos was excited at the prospect of forming a joint venture with Lindsay Park. “I wanted to become involved in a top juvenile prospect and to have who I think is one of the country's best two-year-old trainers race him," he said. "I'm thrilled to be going into a joint partnership with such a great racing stable," Vlahos added.

A solid start to the New Year on the Gold Coast as BC3 Thoroughbreds picked up 2 horses on day 1 of the 2010 Magic Millions Yearling sale.

Lot 65, a Stratum colt by Awards was picked up for $70,000. Stratum provided 2 graduates for the 2009 BC3 draft whilst this is the first foal by Awards, a mare by Woodman.

Lot 192 is a Stravinsky colt out of Eccentricity, by Noalcoholic, and was purchased for $170,000.

Spring Shorts #2

A lot can happen in 4 weeks, and that’s certainly been the case for BC3 since our last update on October 19. The form streak has continued in the United States with a Group 1 placing, and we’ve reduced our current numbers in Australia down to 5 with the sale of a number of promising 2YO’s. And to cap a big month off, we’ve just announced a major race sponsorship in conjunction with the Melbourne Racing Club for a 2YO race on Boxing Day.

Group 1 Form

BC3’s outstanding run at Santa Anita this season continued over the last month, culminating in a strong performance by Free Flying Soul who ran a strong third in the Group 1 Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on November 6. From her 7 starts, she has placed 6 times, including 3 wins, with prizemoney of $214,223.

Just prior to the Breeders Cup week, 2009 BC3 graduates Tribal Face and Majestic Afleet both saluted at Santa Anita on October 21 and 24 respectively. Their victories add to the BC3 performance table which looks like this since August 1 this year:

With the majority of our Australian 2YO’s close to commencing their racing careers, these numbers are sure to increase even further over the next few months.

Boxing Day 2YO race

On Monday November 16, the Melbourne Racing Club and BC3 Thoroughbreds announced the creation of an exciting new 2YO race to be held on Boxing Day, Saturday December 26. With $70,000 in prizemoney and an additional $20,000 BC3 bonus, the race provides a perfect qualification path for both the Magic Millions and Autumn Festival of racing for 2YO’s. We encourage all 2YO owners, and especially those who purchased BC3 horses this year, to nominate for this exciting race. Australian Sales

The strong performances outlined above have no doubt added to the sales success in Australia over the last few months. Since our last communication, we have sold another 8 of our 2009 Australian draft, leaving just 5 unsold horses including:

American Crew - a Stratum colt with Chris Waller's stable. He has just returned from a spell and is being prepared for the Autumn features.
Lion Heart colt with Gai Waterhouse. Recently returned from a spell and is in magnificent condition
Stratum colt out of Whirligig. He's currently in pre-training at Sutton Grange and will be making his track debut within the next month.

United States Buying Program

The 2009 buying season has finished for BC3 in the United States and our 24 horses have settled in well at the Salt Lake farm in Utah. The highlight of the buying program was undoubtedly the Speightstown colt purchased at the July Fasig Tipton sale in Lexington and the staff at the farm are already excited with his progress. He’ll be sure to draw attention at the March sales.

With the buying season now complete, we’ll shortly commence the process of collating pedigree, photography and other relevant information in the lead up to the 2YO sales at Calder and Los Angeles. Christmas Bonus for 2YO Racing

The Melbourne Racing Club and BC3 Thoroughbreds have joined forces to bring an exciting new race for 2 year olds to Caulfield’s Boxing Day meeting, providing a key step into the preparation of 2 year olds for the Autumn Festival of Racing and Magic Millions.

The BC3 Thoroughbreds Plate is a Set Weights & Penalties race over 1000 metres open to all 2 year olds. Worth $70,000 in prize money, BC3 Thoroughbreds will also provide the winning owners with a $20,000 “bonus credit” to be redeemed at the next BC3 Thoroughbreds ‘Future Stars’ Preview Day. And as a great incentive for all 2 YO owners, the bonus credit applies to all winners - irrespective of whether the winning horse is a graduate of the BC3 process.

BC3 Thoroughbreds select, buy and train young horses specifically to produce elite racehorses for the thoroughbred racing industry. From the moment BC3 buy a horse, its nutrition and exercise programs are closely monitored and managed with the express intention of turning it into a strong, professional, ready-to-race2 year old.

Dark Valley kick starts BC3's Spring

BC3 Thoroughbreds celebrated an immediate breakthrough today, with recent graduate Dark Valley landing today's Listed Debutants Stakes at Caulfield.

BC3 has ambitions to transform the way Australasian buyers think about Ready To Run Sales and their charter is to buy yearlings and then prepare them for sale.

Ready to Run Sales are a key feature elsewhere in the world, but haven't really been embraced by vendors or buyers in this part of the world.

BC3 hopes to change this type of thinking and today's result, from a horse purchased at their Open Day on August 23, is a perfect way to illustrate what they intend to do.

“I'm happy for the owners and this is what we want to do for the industry. This is the way to buy horses we believe and we've still got quite a few for the Magic Millions (Ready To Run Sale),” BC3's Bill Vlahos said.

The Darren Weir trained Dark Valley was picked out by part-owner Fred Damico at the sale, where he gave top price of $210,000 for the Johannesburg colt, who was one of 14 horses sold on the day.

The colt joins Deer Valley – a graduate of the 2008 round of yearling sales – as stakes winners for BC3 in their very short history.

Dark Valley is from the Select Prince mare Musical Chimes, a winner of 16 races, who in turn is a half-sister to Sir Avalanche, a stakes winner of 17 races.

He becomes the 27th individual stakes winner for Johannesburg, but just third in Australia.

Johannesburg, who had his first Australian Group 1 winner when Turffontein won the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last month, was recently sold to Japan, where he will stand the 2010 season.

He stood for five years in Australia from 2003 and Dark Valley is from his second last crop in this part of the world.

Dane Babylon sold to Hong Kong

Exciting 2YO juvenile Dane Babylon was this week sold by BC3 Thoroughbreds to an undisclosed Hong Kong buyer. The Danewin colt heads to his new owners after some impressive form at Flemington over the past few months, reinforcing the promise that BC3 horses are always for sale.

BC3 CEO Bill Vlahos said it was always tough to let go of a quality prospect, but this process proves the BC3 brand promise. “Dane Babylon has been a great colt for BC3 Thoroughbreds. He’s reinforced the whole notion that BC3 are in the business of producing quality 2YO’s for the Thoroughbred Racing industry. And, as we’ve proven with this sale, we are in the business of selling. He has been, and will continue to be, a great role model for what we’re trying to achieve” Vlahos stated.

BC3’s Lonhro Filly pushes sale claim

BC3 Thoroughbreds filly, Deer Valley, continues to perform in front of potential buyers with another strong performance, taking out Tuesday’s Queens Park 2YO handicap at Royal Randwick over 1200metres. Racing on the speed, she handled the 57 kg well before defeating another Lonhro filly, the strong finishing Counterpane, by head in a time of 1:15.

The win takes her record to 2 wins from 4 starts and she is proving one of the shining lights for the new 2YO organisation BC3 Thoroughbreds. Trainer Chris Waller, whilst pleased with her run, sees further improvement in the filly. “It’s all come very quickly this preparation for her and she only trialled last Friday. I’d like to find a Stakes race or two for her during the carnival”

For those owners looking for an exciting Spring 3YO filly, she stands as an alluring prospect. Currently owned by BC3 Thoroughbreds, she is, as is always the case with BC3 horses, still for sale. BC3 Thoroughbreds today launched the ‘BC3 Australian Preview Day’ for its 2009 draft of 2YO horses. In yet another move to position itself as a unique player in the 2YO market, BC3 have established their own Preview Day in response to extensive market research on the preferred timing and structure of such an event. In a big news day for BC3, the announcement of the Preview Day coincides with the announcement of the company’s move to a new home at Sutton Grange in Central Victoria as of today.

The double announcement was officially made by BC3 Thoroughbreds CEO Bill Vlahos who expressed his excitement about both pieces of news. “The BC3 Preview Day will provide us with the opportunity to showcase our 2009 Australian draft to local, interstate and international buyers. The horses will work over 400 metres which provides a distinct difference to traditional 2YO showcase events. In addition, our new home at Sutton Grange provides us with a fantastic venue for not only the Preview Day, but an amazing training facility that BC3 will be calling home for at least the next three years."

BC3 Strike with Dane Babylon

BC3 Thoroughbreds, a rising pinhooking and breeze-up syndicator, had plenty to celebrate today when their exciting juvenile Dane Babylon won the $75,000 Peter Armytage Handicap (1000m) at Flemington.

Dane Babylon ($5-$5.50-$4.60) defeated Exceed All Limits ($12-$15) by a long head with Agrippa ($5-$5.50) a half neck away in third.

With its origins linked back to the United States with John Brocklebank, Bill Vlahos, CEO of BC3 Thoroughbreds, said that today's victory was a significant moment not just for the company but the Australian racing industry.

"That horse has been going well, he's a really nice horse and one of many that we've got for sale at BC3 Thoroughbreds," Vlahos said.

"It's all about creating two-year-old horses for owners so they can come in and buy at a later stage and rather then guess at a yearling stage, we prepare the horses for them and we prepare horses like Dane Babylon."

"John has been very successful in the states, for example he's had 18 two-year-olds go to the racetrack for 14 winners and 3 stakes winners and we're hoping to do the same in Australia," Vlahos added.

Purchased for $200,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Dane Babylon is the second raced foal from the dam Kimash, a half sister to the dam of Rewaaya, to win.

Vlahos was keen to announce that Dane Babylon was still for sale.

"It doesn't matter what races they win, we're willing to sell them."

"His price has gone up most definitely, especially for those agents listening in Hong Kong," Vlahos quipped.

The team from BC3 Australia have been busy buying quality yearlings around Austalia this year and will be presenting an outstanding draft at the 2009 Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast on October 28 and 29.

Unsold Lonhro filly continues BC3 flying start

Lonhro filly Deer Valley continued the amazing early success of new Australian outfit BC3 Thoroughbreds with her maiden victory at Kembla Grange on Saturday. The filly, out of Danislew, jumped well to take a sit behind the leaders before peeling out at the 800. She then cruised up outside the leaders approaching the home bend, before shooting away to record a hands and heels 4 ¾-length victory. The win is more astonishing considering Deer Valley’s time of 34.02 over the last 600 metres on a Heavy 8 track. In fact, her winning time of 58.52 is only just over 2 seconds outside the track record of 56.26.

Trainer Chris Waller is currently aiming the horse for the $250,000 listed AAMI Black Opal Stakes at Canberra on 8 March.

Bill Vlahos, CEO of BC3 Thoroughbreds, said “The win continues the success of our first draft which we sold at the Magic Millions 2YO sale in November last year. It reinforces that the BC3 Thoroughbreds process, which turns yearlings into great ready to race two-year-olds, is working in the Australian marketplace.”

BC3 Building Big Team for September

Wednesday, 18 February 2009: Another six yearling purchases in Perth last week has boosted Ready To Run Sale specialists BC3's pool of horses to 16 as the group heads towards offering a sizeable draft of two-year-olds at September's Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale.

BC3 Australia General Manager Aaron Corby said at this stage, it looks like they will have a draft of between 40 and 50 horses heading to the Gold Coast for this year's sale.

“Obviously we have to be very specific about the yearlings we buy,” Corby said.

“At this stage, we are very happy with what we have been able to secure this year and it was nice to add another six horses to our list from Perth.

Corby said while it was imperative that the yearlings purchased will stand up to the training program, it was equally important to find a balance between performance and pedigree.

“We've bought equally nice colts and fillies at this stage,” he said. “It's important with fillies in particular to have a pedigree page to support them so they appeal to trainers and breeders alike.”

Colts by Lonhro, Snitzel, Bradbury's Luck and Lion Heart were purchases in Perth, along with fillies by Magic Albert and Starcraft.

This follows 10 purchases made by BC3 on the Gold Coast, which included progeny of stallions including Flying Spur, Stratum, Johannesburg, Jet Spur, Dubawi and Sequalo.

Formed by John Brocklebank and Shane Chipman, BC3 Australia aims to bring to Australia what they have been doing so successfully in the United States for many years, with a charter to “select, buy and train young thoroughbreds to specifically produce quality racehorses for the Thoroughbred Racing Industry.”

In other words, “pinhooking” from yearling sales and then bringing in a specialist team to prepare those horses for Ready to Run Sales – specifically the MM HIT – later in the year.

It is a formula that has worked for Brocklebank over a number of years in the US, where he is one of the leading Pinhookers and most respected judges of young horses.

"We look to buy athletes that will not only sell well, but will take the next step and produce the racetrack results that our clients are coming to expect from BC3 Thoroughbred horses in the USA,” Brocklebank says.

"Our nutrition and bone conditioning means that our horses are ready to head straight to the races.”

Every horse on the BC3 books is for sale, in order to make for total transparency and to buck off the perception that Ready To Run Sales are simply a dumping ground for cast off horses.

“We are offering the Australian market something more than we have here at the moment,” BC3 Australia Director Bill Vlahos said.

“Two-year-old sales work very well everywhere else in the world except here. People have been cynical about the product and why they are selling those horses.

“But last year we brought a product to the sale that blew a lot of people away. They (buyers) said to us if they knew those types of horses would be there they would have brought some orders.

“From that, we have already had people saying they will be back this year.

“It seems most people think it's a good thing for the industry and are keen for it to get off the mark.”

Vlahos says BC3 has worked closely with Magic Millions on “addressing a weakness in the Australian industry” and he feels the goodwill generated from last year will show immediate dividends in 2009.

“I have no hesitation in saying that this year's two-year-old sale will be the biggest ever,” he said.

BC3 made an immediate impression with their draft at last year's MM Horses in Training Sale, where they sold the sale topping Red Ransom-Joie colt for $180,000, and the highest priced filly of the sale, by Elusive Quality from Sabkha for $140,000.

From just a handful of runners from BC3's draft at last year's sale, already there has been the stakes placed Fast Lover, along with recent winners Benefaction (the sale topping Red Ransom colt) and Classic Rush.

“The early results have been encouraging and I know there are quite a few others from last year's sale that have trialled well and pleased trainers ahead of their race debuts,” Corby said.

BC3 will next be aiming to buy at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, Adelaide Magic Millions and QTIS 600 Sale on the Gold Coast.

BC3 Set for Australian Sales Debut

The excitement is building for the team from BC3 Australia - who make their Australian sales debut at next week's Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast.

And as if scripted, a number of their horses from their quality packed draft have been the subject of important updates on the eve of Australia's premier breeze up style sale.

BC3 Australia, formed by proven American pin hookers John Brocklebank and Shane Chipman, has an exceptional draft heading to the sale.

Among them is a full sister to last Saturday's brilliant Adelaide winner Falvelon's Dream - a talented sprinter who is running again tomorrow and is expected to be hard to beat.

Another of the draft - the Iglesia youngster Fast Lover - looks a ready made racehorse and ran third at Eagle Farm on October 11 after winning a trial at the same track a few days earlier.

Five horses from the BC3 Australia draft have been seen at the official trials in either Sydney or Brisbane and three of them are trial winners.

Aaron Corby, the general manager of BC3 Australia, says the men behind his team are proven at the elite level in finding, educating and selling prospective racetrack stars in the Northern Hemipshere.

"Of recent years BC3 Thoroughbred horses in training graduates in the United States include the Group One winners Brother Derek, Reraise and River's Prayer and Group Three winner Cover Gal," Corby said.

"All BC3 Australia horses are for sale and our charter ensures that none are held back unless a horse proves itself not up to our high standards."

Among them are youngsters by sires including Red Ransom, Fastnet Rock, Sequalo, Danewin, More Than Ready, Anabaa, Charge Forward, Elusive Quality, Falvelon, Tiger Hill, Rock of Gibraltar, Iglesia, Elvstroem, Lonhro and Easy Rocking.

The Red Ransom youngster - a two-year-old colt is from the stakes performed Joie - a half sister to the mighty mare Tuesday Joy - who after the catalogue was printed was a stunning group winner at Moonee Valley.
